Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the zumba participants to dance their worries away. It's based on the principle that a workout should be "Fun and Easy to do" allowing zumba men and women to stick to the Zumba fitness program and achieve long-term health benefits.  

Zumba is a "feel-happy"workout that is great for both the body and mind.  Zumba is a Fusion of Latin and international music dance themes that create a Dynamic, Exciting, and Effective fitness system!  The routines feature aerobic / fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculp the body.  Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training.  

It's Fun...The type of exercise you'll want to do everyday and feel good about doing it !

It's Different....You probably never thought you'd be exercising to this type of music, such as Salsa, Merengue, Belly Dancing, Cumbia, and Reggae just to name a few.

 Salsa TOTS   *** NEW OFFERING ***

Salsa Tots- (Ages walking tots-5yrs)  From goo-goo ga-ga, to cha-cha-cha! Salsa Tots is designed for older babies who have outgrown the carrier and are ready to dance on their own two feet! Featuring original music by renowned Latin artist, Ricky Franco, Salsa Tots combines movement and play with lively tropical rhythms and songs including Spanish vocabulary that parents and kids can both enjoy!  

This is the perfect class for parents who want to spend quality time with their child(ren) in an activity that merges fitness and lots of fun. It is also well-suited for parents who want to bring a younger baby or siblings along with them.  

*Siblings under 12 months participate for FREE!  

Class Duration: 45 minutes/ 8 week session    

What to bring to class: For Salsa Tots, it is best to dress yourself and your toddler in comfy clothes and shoes and be prepared to move around and possibly get a little sweaty! This 45 minute class will get you moving around a whole lot, so you may want to bring juice or water for you and your toddler, just in case you get thirsty. Please refrain from giving snacks until after class.

 Salsa BABIES   *** NEW OFFERING ***

Salsa Babies- (Ages 6weeks +) Dance your way back into shape with the best little partner of all...Your Baby!  This class is designed for the mom or dad who isn't afraid to get a little sweaty and exercise the pounds away, learning popular Latin dances, while babies shake their maracas and safely bounce along to the Salsa beat!  Each week participants will learn new steps and variations to the Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo, Merengue, Bachata and of course the Salsa! Appropriate for babies from 6 weeks to 18 months, as long as participants are comfortable supporting the baby in a front carrier or wrap for the duration of the class (typically infants are under the age of 12 months, depending on weight of the baby).  All levels of fitness and dance experience are welcome.

Class Duration: 45min/6 or 8 Week Session    

What to bring to class: For Salsa Babies classes, it is best to come to class prepared to move around. Comfy gym clothes, running shoes, or if you have them, dance sneakers or ballet slippers work well.  It is strongly recommended to bring a bottle of water for yourself in addition to any baby items you require. Because the baby is worn against your body, you can both get a little sweaty by the end of class, so you may wish to dress the baby in layers or bring a change of clothes. Of course you’ll need a baby carrier. There is a wide range of carriers out on the market, from wraps to front/back carriers (no slings please).  Just make sure it is safe and comfortable for you and your baby.

Bollywood Workout

Bolllywood workout is based on the energetic, graceful and glamorous dances of Bollywood from India. The fast paced movements of Bollywood dances work on all the muscle groups for a total well-rounded and balanced workout for the full body. It is easy to do and absolutely fun. Find out for yourself what the buzz is all about!

Bollywood Dancing is absolute fantastic – it is energetic, graceful, expressive, and sensual all in one. It is a fusion of different dance styles such as Indian classical to Modern Western, Arabic and Latin Dance moves. Bollywood Dancing is a fun and funky dance taking in all the glitter and glamour of the Bollywood world. As a workout Bollywood movements will work on all of your muscle groups, increase your heart rate and your body coordination. Isn’t that what everybody is looking for in an exercise program?

The Bollywood workout that we have designed will give you a well-rounded and balanced workout for your full body. It is easy to do and is absolute fun. The 40-minute dance-cum-workout starts off with a 5 minutes  warm-up which will prepare you for vigorous activities, followed by 5 minutes of abs work, then a 5-10 minutes  Bollywood short steps on a slow tempo rhythm, then the Bollywood rhythm quickens to a high impact and fast  pace for 15-20 minutes, followed by5-10 minutes of cooling down and relaxing.

 Ballroom Fit

Have you seen “Dancing with the Stars” and wondered how the dancers stay so fit? Well, Ballroom dancing is more than just a social event. It's a way to get in shape. You can give your body a good workout through ballroom dancing.  As you waltz or swing your way across the floor, you are actually helping your body burn calories, firm muscles, increase flexibility and tone your body.  When coupled with a healthy diet it will lead you to total fitness.

Ballroom dancing requires your body to consistently move at a fairly rapid pace, which will speed up your heart rate and improve its endurance. It will improve blood circulation which is good for your physical and mental senses. Ballroom dancing gives your body the equivalent of a good cardio workout, which can help you feel relaxed and less stressed.

At Sonia Dance Rhythm we have designed a 45 min program to tone, shape and burn fat. We have mixed many ballroom dance rhythms such as Waltz, Swing, Cha Cha, Samba, Merengue, and Salsa that help work all major muscle groups.

Our program starts with 10 minutes of warm up,  stretching  the whole core to prepare for quicker movements, followed with 10 minutes of dance (reviewing previous material), then followed with 10-15 minutes of instruction in new moves and steps. To finish, there will be 10 minutes of intensive non stop dancing of the routine we just learned. In the last 5 minutes we will cool down and stretch the core muscles so the body will feel less stress on the new group muscles we worked on. 

 

 Yoga

This class is for those new to yoga or returning to yoga again.  Learn basic postures, breath awareness, increase your flexibility & gain strength.

The class incorporates learning alignment, body awareness & philosophy of yoga.  The teachings are draw from classic Hatha Yoga.  We teach through demonstration, participation and explanation. All classes are taught in a calming and inspiring atmosphere with class size limited in consideration of safety and comfort.  We attract a variety of students.   All ages and body types are welcome.  With practice, dedication and discipline yoga may help in weight loss, to relieve chronic pain, promote physical and emotional energy and slow down the effects of aging.

Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means “to yoke” or “union, connection or relationship.” Through the process of yoga, one connects to the mind, breath, body and spirit to become “whole” and attain a higher level of being.The practice of yoga can mean a lot of things to different people. Your own yoga practice can be any or all of the following, depending on why you want to practice and how you incorporate yoga into your life.

Asana: Physical postures to build strength and flexibility so energy can flow freely.

Pranayama: Breath control to cleanse and strengthen the nervous system and increase your vital energy.

Meditation: Learn to focus, concentrate and quiet the mind.

Deep Relaxation: Release tension and stress.

Life Philosophy: Classical yoga provides good common sense guidelines for living a healthier, happier life. It includes social ethics to live in harmony with others and personal ethics to live a balanced life.

Spiritual Fulfillment: The increased self-awareness you develop from practicing yoga allows you to connect with your inner spirit and follow its guidance.
